Today’s book summary is a biography based on one of the greatest athletes ever to play the game of basketball.
This biography is the ultimate study of Michael Jordan, the intelligent and in-depth analysis of a complicated yet fascinating American icon.
Lazenby spent almost thirty years covering Jordan’s career in college and the pros. He saw Jordan’s growth from a skinny rookie to the global icon he eventually turned into.
I love reading biographies as it helps me build courage and I get inspired reading the stories of these great people that did amazing things in their life.
Michael Jordan The Life By Roland Lazenby, let’s get into it.
Takeaway
I can’t begin to tell you how life-changing this book was for me.
There’s not another human being in this world that I relate to as much as I do with Jordan.
The ambition.
The mental toughness.
The competitiveness.
The obsession with winning at all costs.
The ability to make up stories to elevate his game.
The ability to memorize each rejection and take it personally instead of letting it become paralyzing fear like 99% of humanity.
At his peak, he was the most famous person on the planet and the most iconic sports figure EVER, without social media!
He had the world's cockiest swagger but still, he was basically the most teachable player in history.
His coaches would say they’ve never seen a player listen so closely to something and go and do it.
“I’ve never seen a player listen so closely to what the coaches said and go and do it” - Dean Smith
Easily the greatest reason why Jordan was successful was because of his ability tolisten, it was his most precious gift.
To his coaches, his capacity to be coached was his single most impressive attribute.
You only had to tell him once and he would take massive action.
He was seen as this cocky person but he was an implementor.
He was cocky and confident but only outwardly.
Inwardly he was driven by the humility to turn on a dime.
To listen to something and then go and take action on it takes a large amount of humility.
So what can you learn from this? My simple explanation is to just be like Mike.
Don’t be one of the many people in the world who say they will do something and never do it, increase your level of humbleness.
If you say you’re going to do something then actually do it!
Be reliable, don’t say you’re humble, show you’re humble!
Always listen and be a sponge to those around you, and try to learn from everyone you talk to.
No matter how much money or where you are in life nothing should stop you from growing more knowledge in your brain.
As far as education, don’t just learn to learn, the application of knowledge is essential as well.
Be like Mike, someone who learned something and immediately put it to use.
Be like Mike, a sponge trying to learn something from everybody around you.
I want to be like Mike.
You should become like Mike.
“My greatest skill was Being teachable, I was like a sponge. Even if I thought my coaches were wrong, I tried to listen and learn something” - Michael Jordan
Question:
How can you increase your factor of humility?

I want to be like mike fr! The dedication, and most importantly, the teachability of Mike was top tier. He is a great source of inspiration to many, and so are you JT!
Great review. Michael is such a complex human - so many layers. You had Kareem, you had Magic, you had Bird - and everyone thought it couldn't get much better than that.
Then along came 23 - who changed everything. If Shaq had his work ethic, we might be talking about the Diesel being the greatest....
